What was your very first job?

    • Making sandwiches at a local chain restaurant. The manager was awful. I quit. Felt like a failure. I thought I could make it work, so I asked for my job back. Rehired. The manager was awful. I quit, again.

 

Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.

    • I lead an internal marketing design team responsible for developing concepts, campaigns, communications and experiences to acquire, onboard and retain customers. We collaborate with marketing managers, product designers and production partners to create delightful, personalized, end-to-end prospect and customer journeys. 

 

How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What was there train of events that brought you to where you are today?

    • Growing up with an interest in art and advertising, I knew I wouldn’t be happy pursuing a career in anything else. In college, I taught myself how to use Macromedia Director and Flash to combine design and technology into interactive experiences, and I never looked back. I spent the next 15 years at various agencies learning how to build brands and businesses through creative and design processes. Now working in-house, I’m focused on helping others do the best work of their lives and accelerating the growth of one company.

 

In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

    • Never stop learning. Absorb ideas, insights, information and wisdom from others across time, topics and media. When I find work I admire, I imagine what was included the brief, then look for ways to connect what works with my work.

 

If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be?

    • Ten years ago, my writing partner and I created a website for American Airlines to promote the launch of their new business class cabin. The concept provoked audiences to consider how they would prefer to spend their time while aboard. A personalized story unfolded based on a novel interaction model. For me, that project represents a magical moment where nothing was compromised. We succeeded through inspiration, partnership, growth and execution.

 

Which creative disciplines do you commission most, and are most interested in seeing more of and why? Which of these disciplines are you most be interested in seeing at CONNECTIONS? (ie photo, film, social, experiential, vr, etc)

    • We commission photography and video the most. I’m interested to see photography, video and experiential work to bring ideas and connections back to my team.
