Laura Pizzarelli is currently Chief Creative Office and Founder of the newly launched “A Women Walks the Edge” – A creative consulting company.  Laura just completed a 7 month consulting project at Gap, Inc as Interim Vice President of Creative, completing a visual overhaul, online to in-store.  She also helped launch and implement a new campaign strategy for Gap’s Fall and Holiday collections called “Meet me in the Gap”, working with photographer Daniel Jackson and directors, Director X and Paul Hunter. At the end of seven months Laura left with a Gap kid’s collaboration with Sarah Jessica Parker set to Launch in March, 2018. Previously Laura served for 10 years as J Brands VP of Creative. She built the brand’s creative department from the beginning and established J Brand’s global image, including all ad, web and social campaigns during her tenure. Laura Pizzarelli started her career in the music industry, branding new artists, creating album artwork and directing music videos including photo and artwork for some of the most iconic album’s like No Doubt’s first platinum album, ‘Tragic Kingdom.”

1.) What was your very first job? 

 

I was mowing lawns and babysitting from age 10 but my first real job was at age 14.  I worked in the kitchen of the tiniest restaurant in the tiniest town I grew up in, in CT, called Woodstoves and learned from an amazing French Chef.  I can make THE best twice baked potatoes.

 

2.)  Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails. 

 

I concept and create content and campaigns for brands in the fashion and music industry.  I am also often hired to help brands create or evolve their brand’s DNA to roll out to all areas of marketing from online to in-store.

 

3.) How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What was there train of events that brought you to where you are today? 

 

Never a doubt.  Since I was little my brother, sister and I wrote plays and had a (horrible) “band”. We forced our parents and friends to watch us ☺.  In college, I worked for the college TV station writing, directing all kinds of shows and was promotions director and DJ for WICB FM. I interned at Chrysalis records in London and got my first career job at an audio production company in NY called SoundHound.  

 

4.) In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant? 

 

I’m very inspired by independent /boutique companies, agencies, music, publications and artists.  They usually have more freedom to produce the most current, cutting edge woek.  It’s research and digging beyond what’s just being served up.

 

 

5.)  If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be? 

 

Not sure it was the most creative, it was just the most potent. It was my last project for J Brand. I was head of Creative and Marketing at that point so could create a 360 campaign through all touch points.  We put together a Bella Freud Collaboration that launched after I left.  We also got Lou Doillon to do a 2 season campaign for us shot by Matteo Montinari and Boo George.  Nov of 2016 we flew to London shot Lou with Boo.  Then that night we did a private listening party with Lou Doillon performing from her latest album, “Lay Low” for editors and guests.  Bella Freud attended as we announced the collab.  Trump had just been voted president and I was surrounded by these amazing, authentic, intelligent and talented women hearing the most amazing music and wearing my Bella Freud “The last Poets” jumper.
