Got her start in the Bay Area working for some great publications (7x7, Make & Dwell…long live print!!!), she moved back to NYC and has been working at The New York Times for the last 6 years.  She leads a talented team of photographers & photo editors who create compelling content for our esteemed clients

1.)     What was your very first job?  Lifegaurd at the YMCA 

2.)     Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails. 

I work with our internal creative teams to craft visuals that help our clients tell thoughtful and poignant stories. We work with photographers, illustrators and multi-media content creators to bring our clients stories to life in a way that our readers have come to expect from The Times

3.)     How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What was the train of events that brought you to where you are today?  I’ve always been interested in “making” but it was the sweet sound of a Hassleblad that made me want to pursue a career in photography. It really sounded like you were making something, work was being done, important things were happening.  I was lucky enough to have some really great mentors who spoke highly of me along the way, I owe them a debt of graditude.  

4.)     In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?  Listening to peoples stories.  I’ve learned so much by just listening. Also, podcasts…I’ve been so inspired by listening to stories I otherwise wouldn’t be able to be immersed in.

5.)     If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be?  Our work on with our client  GE on the NYT Mag audio. One of the most collaborative pieces I’ve ever done and to be a small part of that issue was a really humbling experience.  

 

6.)     Which creative disciplines do you commission most, and are most interested in seeing more of and why? (ie photo, film, social, experiential, vr, etc) - photo photo photo…Video is an amazing tool but you can’t get people to finish it, at least at a high rate. A photograph has a 100% completion rate :)
