Dior Spring/Summer 2017
Maripol's work as an artist and designer has influenced popular movements in music, film, fashion and art since the early 1980’s. As a photographer she is most famous for her Polaroid portraits of downtown 1980’s New York icons, including Madonna, Deborah Harry, Grace Jones and Andy Warhol, which have been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide. Also recognized as one of the leading impresarios of the 80’s club and fashion scene, Maripol was an important stylist and image maker to some of the most notable artists of the time, including the fashion house Fiorucci. Additionally, she produced the classic cult film Downtown 81 starring Jean-Michel Basquiat and directed the documentary Keith Haring, The Message. As an apparel and jewelry designer for many prominent 80’s artists, her trademarked black rubber bracelets, chains, and crucifixes helped shape the style of the decade. Her recent work includes collaborations with fashion brands including Dior, Valentino, Hugo Boss, Marc Jacobs, Joyrich, and Each x Other.
