Timothy grew up on the outskirts of Brisbane, Australia, spending most of his youth in the rainforest of the Gold Coast hinterlands causing mischief and climbing trees. Restless by nature, Timothy moved abroad to London at the age of 21. After a brief stint in the U.K., he made the leap to New York City where he assisted/hustled his way up the creative ladder, working with brands including Tumi, Levis, David Yurman, and Ports 1961. Seven years later, Timothy moved back to Europe, where he split his time between London and Berlin consulting on various projects for The International Polo Academy, Levis and Nancy Gonzalez. NYC eventually drew him back, leading him to Equinox, where he currently serves as Art Director. In his role, Timothy focuses on communications and content creation across all brand channels, along with chief mother hen duties.

What was your very first job?
Web development/design for Trans youth suicide prevention with ATSAQ – Australian Transgender Support Association of Queensland.
Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.
Art Director / Mother hen. Work entails the day to day management of the in-house creative team. Also partnering with Social Media, Digital, Creative Services and external creatives to spearhead content/branding development for all channels of the business.
How and when did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Tell us how you got to where you are today.
My creativity comes from my mum, she was an avid seamstress. I preferred reading/sketching and getting messy over making friends. I went to school for photography and design, though I started out working in a tattoo parlor, then to retail and visual merchandising and onto styling. After which I became a production artist before eventually working my way up to where I am today.
In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?
Honestly, my team inspires me to be a better Art Director. Music is also very important to me. The intersection of traditional mediums and technology fascinates me, and I'm always looking for ways to subvert it my personal work.
If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be?
That is a REALLY tough question! Probably a renovations campaign I shot with Sølve Sundsbø. It’s so simple and beautiful. Though you only ever see the creative if you are at one of our clubs that is undergoing a renovation.
