What was your very first job?
I was a shop assistant at Wren Fellini Gallery. At the tender age of 15, I learned about beautiful custom framing, and how to embrace systematic entropy.
Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.
I am the Global Digital Creative Director for Kiehl’s Since 1851. I oversee, and manage, branded digital content creation, on a variety of channels. In no particular order, and not limited to: hero photography, ecommerce design, social campaigns, and motion. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What was there train of events that brought you to where you are today?
Fine art is at my core. My father’s a painter, and I grew up messing around in his studio. It wasn’t until I took an animation course at 17 that I embraced the idea of being a creative professional. My background in motion definitely helped me mutate into digital design and art direction.
In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?
I often look at what has nothing to do with the commercial industry, especially when I’m at an impasse. I’ve found the best inspiration comes from the sensorial, and unexpected.
If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be?
I was part of a rebranding exercise for an emerging cosmetics company. This put me out of my comfort zone of creating exclusively for the digital space, and I had to consider physical objects. In addition, I wanted to streamline and elevate the product franchises, which forced me to learn about new materials. I’m convinced the universe has a wry sense of humor; the board of investors opted to not move forward with the rebranding, and the public eye never caught glimpse of this project.
