Born in Richmond, VA, Anna Williams moved to New York after college and assisted some of the greatest commercial photographers. Quickly she went out on her own and earned PDN’s “30 Under 30” recognition for her outstanding work. Anna shoots for a diverse list of clients and continues to receive industry awards. In 2010, Anna launched The Voracity, a personal project meant to explore themes like beauty, hunger and consumption, with each series delving into a new visual approach and expanding her personal vision.
For “Ember,” The Voracity’s 15th and most intimate issue, Anna found new inspiration in an unexpected place, through the mourning of her mother, which she describes here: “When the source of our inspiration is overcast from loss or from grief, it can feel impossible to find the light again. Like trying to start a fire in the rain. This past fall I took a trip to Iceland with my husband - so restorative in so many ways. A healing from sadness and at the same time a renewal of hope and creativity. Earth and soul interwoven... an awareness of the life and beauty all around us - even in the bleak expanse of loss.”
