Before SapientRazorfish Christian Waitzinger, was the Vice President and Executive Creative Director for SapientNitro’s New York office. Christian oversaw the entire creative department in the New York office and leads the development of multi-channel user experiences, on-brand designs, innovative campaigns, connected retail experiences and fan engagement platforms. Prior to joining SapientNitro, Christian held many creative positions at the Sapient Corporation. He is on numerous industry panels at leading conferences, including Ad Age, and South by Southwest. Christian's award-winning work for clients includes: Verizon Wireless, MSNBC, Target, Bed, Bath & Beyond, WWE, Nissan USA, Singapore Airlines, Sony Electronics, and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

What was your very first job?

Selling ice cream at my fathers cafe.  

Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.

As ECD for Continental Europe I oversee the creative department and lead strategy and creative execution. As a graphic designer by trade I’m an advocate for excellent design and champion for the user. Besides that: Blowing minds, putting out fires and helping people grow. 

How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What there train of events that brought you to where you are today?

I think it was always clear that I would end up doing something creative. From very early on I wanted to express myself creatively. Not sure how I ended up where I’m at now…. It could have also been music, film, art or architecture. 

In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

I’m trying to go through life with open eyes and listen more than I talk. I’ve included a picture of Bruce Mau’s „Incomplete Manifesto for Growth“ - he gives a lot of good advice and I’m always happier after I read it again. 

If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be?

I’d rather not. In many ways I’m more proud of the really difficult projects that didn’t necessarily achieve the desired outcome – but at least I’ve pulled through it. The lessons learned from these projects are far more valuable to me. As they say, it’s about the journey and not the destination.
