Andrea was born in London, grew up in Munich and studied English, French and Economics. After working for an advertising agency Andrea went to London for a course at Saint Martins College due to her love fashion and felt the need to work in a more creative surrounding. Afterwards Andrea started working for Miss Vogue at Condé Nast in Munich. This was her first job in the magazine industry. Andrea also worked for Harper’s Bazaar before becoming a photo editor at German Vogue where she also had the chance to launch the syndication and Digital Archive at CN Germany.

What was your very first job?

My first job was a marketing assistant after my studies - and a junior go cart racer when I was still at school

Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.

As a VOGUE photo editor it’s my job to find exclusive images from the world’s best photographers - I organize photoshoots and also search for the best images on the market. I am in contact with the photographers and their agencies everyday. As a syndication manager, I syndicate images to and from CN International/CN US magazines. Besides I am also in charge of all legal matters like setting up and signing contracts, book releases etc.

How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What was there train of events that brought you to where you are today?

At the age of five I wanted to become a ballet dancer and trained at the Bavarian State Theatre while I still went to school. Beauty - whether it derives from people, stages, products, fashion, music always fascinated me. Aesthetics can be found in all elements of this world. And while you train as a ballet dancer you learn never to give up and to work very hard to get the best result. In my eyes a necessity for working at a high end magazine like VOGUE. Never to give up searching for the best images in this world with endless beauty.

In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

The world of magazines is not necessarily growing - it is changing. I see it as a challenge to keep up with the changes. Although I have to admit that it is sometimes difficult for a print editor and also to be absolutely up to date with the online world. I am glad that I have great online colleagues that I can learn a lot from. And my kids keep me up-to-date with all the new social media changes. If I had more time I would love to do all courses that e.g. our Wired campus or Hyper Island e.g. offer. Photo editors need to understand how visual storytelling and thinking influence and change our world. And it is not difficult to find inspiration with so much talent and beauty in this world. And there is no better way than to express this through photography and the art of videography. And the job never gets boring.
