Ryan is a Southern California native, groomed by Disney, action sports, and local music scene. Currently Creative Director for Speedo, USA , and a new father.  He is most passionate about creating captivating stories that drive positive actions around amazing brands and people. Previously Ryan has had the opportunity to impact major brands such as Oakley, Disney, Smog City Brewing Company, Boy Scouts of America, N3L Optics, and Deutsch Advertising, Los Angeles.

1. What was your very first job?

My first payroll job was a boating instructor and Lifeguard at Leeway Sailing Center in the City of Long Beach in California. This is still one of my favorite jobs of all time. 

2. Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.

I’m the Creative Brand Director at Speedo, USA, and I’m ultimately responsible for the In-house’s team Creative Output. 

3. How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What was there train of events that brought you to where you are today?

At a early age, like most, comic book and drawing were an escape. Mentored by Disney illustrator and commercial artist, Joe Yakovetic, I learned that you can follow your passions as an artist if you understand marketing and hardworking. I was about 6 years old when I decided I was going to be a artist of some kind.

4. In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?

Put the mouse down and go explore! For me, its about disconnecting from media and technology. Being outdoors, traveling, or making a new friend at the coffee shop. Keeping and open-mind, listening, and being comfortable in a constant state of evolution is my approach. 

5. If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be?

Developing the Speedo Brand is one of my strongest achievements this far in my career. We shifted the brand to be more than budgie smugglers and racing suits with relevancy every four years at the Olympics to a aquatic lifestyle and sports brand. Its been really exciting to impact a legacy brand like Speedo and create new energy around this Household name.
