An art director by trade, I find the uniqueness in ideas and bring them to life. Leading a team of designers, I work directly with creative directors across seven offices in developing brands for the agency’s top clients including Boeing, Coca-Cola Mexico, Terranea, Life is Beautiful, MGM, and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

1.) What was your very first job? 

Dishwasher. I learned to work hard, be efficient, and enjoy my co-workers. I rarely hire someone if they haven’t worked in the service industry in some fashion.

 

 

 2.) Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails. 

 

Basically, I help brands figure out what they should look like, and how they should speak.

 

3.) How did you discover that the creative world was right for you? Was there a time in your life that you credit to this discovery? What was there train of events that brought you to where you are today? 

I spent many years working professionally as a studio musician/drummer, so I was always around creative people, making tangible things. Working as a session player, you learn to listen to what the artist or producer is asking for, and you support that vision. It’s not really about your own distinctive sound or style – it’s more about being adaptable and setting your ego aside. I think the moment you hear the whole track assembled is the moment I cherish the most, and taking a great photo or making a wonderful logo or layout come to life is the same for me today.

 

4.) In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant? 

I’m inspired most by the people and the world around me. My girlfriend is a designer too, so we share work and ideas constantly. California is also very inspiring – there’s so much visual diversity and tons of creative energy.

 

5.) If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry “success,” what would it be? 

 

I like simple, fun things. The Slurpee Mustache Straw campaign in my book was so easy and generated a TON of UGC. I think the industry tends to overwork the creative idea or tries to force too much strategy into the final product. If you can’t create something that people can relate to without over-explaining the idea, you have failed.
