David SOUFFAN

David Souffan has consulted for many luxury brands on image-related projects and has written several books, including the French critically-acclaimed "Hilton Mcconnico." David joined Lancôme in 2006 as Senior Vice President of Communication and PR & Image Director for the French beauty house. There, he oversees each aspect of the brand’s creative expression and works with some of the world’s top photographers, including Sølve Sundsbø, Mario Testino, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott and Jeff Burton. He is also constantly digging for new talents and inspiration.
David was appointed Deputy General Manager Global Communications at Lancôme last year.

1.) What was your very first job?
I was a freelance journalist for a French women’s magazine.

2.) Please describe, in your own words, what your job is and what work it entails.
I am Deputy General Manager Global Communications at Lancôme that encompasses the entire PR strategy at world level, but also advertising and digital communication.

3.) How did you discover that the creative world was right for you?
I have always been passionate about photography and working as an editor and stylist. I have an affinity for working with photos and an affinity for creation in general. 

4.) In your constantly growing and expanding industry, how do you find inspiration to keep your work fresh, innovative and relevant?
A lot from my worldly travels and from systematic store visits in all aspects of retail and fashion, not just beauty. Reading the international press also inspires me; I watch a lot of what is happening on the web and I buy a lot of books.

5.) If you had to pick one piece of work or project that you are most proud of, more for the creative work and innovation it required, rather than its recognition or industry "success," what would it be?
The Alber Elbaz project for Lancôme is very innovative. It brings a lot of freshness to Lancôme.
